Abhyāsam

A journey of learning and growing together

What is Abhyāsam?

A Year-Long Program in Seeing and Visual Structure.

This year-long studio program is designed for artists seeking greater clarity in how they see, organise, and resolve a painting. The curriculum is structured around the Elements of Art, approached not as theory but as lived studio concerns, explored through sustained observation, plant studies, and watercolour practice.

The program emphasises sustained looking, deliberate decision-making, and the ability to recognise what a painting needs at each stage of its development. The focus remains on how visual decisions are made, revised, and resolved over time.

Program Structure

  • Duration: 12 months

  • Format: Weekly

  • Medium: Watercolour (supported by drawing)

  • Subject: Plants and natural forms

  • Approach: Observation-led, process-based

  • Each month focuses on one core element, allowing participants to engage deeply rather than move quickly. Elements recur implicitly across the year, strengthening understanding through repetition and continuity.

Why Abhyasam?

Abhyasam is for artists who want to work with greater clarity and intention.

The program provides a structured way to engage with fundamentals over time, allowing decisions to be tested, revisited, and refined through practice.

It offers a framework for organising how you see, work, and make decisions in the studio.

Who This Is For?

Abhyasam is suited for artists who:

  • already have a working relationship with their medium

  • are comfortable spending time in the studio independently

  • want to refine fundamentals rather than follow instructions

This program assumes seriousness and self-direction.
